How We Verify E-Bike Service Policies

EBikeServiceFinder documents what repair shops actually publish about e-bike service. This page explains our sources, classification rules, verification process, and how information is updated.

Our Source Standard

Shop Websites Only

Every directory listing must be supported by the repair shop's own published website, specifically a page containing its e-bike service policy or relevant published service information.

We do not create listings from general business directories, customer reviews, social-media discussions, photographs, or third-party claims about a shop's repair capabilities.

A shop without a qualifying published e-bike service policy is not included, even if it advertises general bicycle repair services.

Required evidence: Every shop record must have a direct policy-source URL and a checked date. Records without both required fields are not eligible for publication.

Policy Classification

Mechanical and Electrical Coverage Are Separate

The directory uses separate three-state fields for any-brand mechanical and any-brand electrical service acceptance.

Recorded value Meaning
yes The shop explicitly publishes acceptance of any-brand service within that particular category of work.
no The shop explicitly publishes that it does not accept any-brand service within that particular category of work.
unstated The published policy does not establish either acceptance or refusal. No conclusion is inferred.

Mechanical Any-Brand Policy

The field policy_mechanical_any_brand records whether the shop explicitly accepts mechanical e-bike service across brands.

Electrical Any-Brand Policy

The field policy_electrical_any_brand separately records published acceptance of electrical e-bike service across brands.

Unstated is a real classification. If a shop discusses mechanical repairs but says nothing about electrical repairs, electrical acceptance remains unstated. We never upgrade silence into approval or refusal.

Brand-Specific Evidence

Named Brands and Exclusions

We record direct-to-consumer and dealer brands named in a shop's own published policy. Brand names are preserved from the source rather than inferred from the products a shop sells or photographs it displays.

Brands Named in the Policy

The dtc_brands_named field contains the brands explicitly named in the shop's policy, using the published wording.

Brands Excluded

The brands_excluded field records exclusions exactly as published by the shop. We do not create exclusions based on assumptions about proprietary parts, authorization, or manufacturer relationships.

Brand-Specific Coverage Is Not Universal Coverage

A shop naming one brand does not establish that it accepts every brand. Similarly, a brand-specific acceptance statement does not automatically establish any-brand mechanical or electrical coverage.

The brand-policy matrix separates these classifications so visitors can examine the underlying evidence.

Record Requirements

What Each Shop Listing Contains

Our shop records use the following fields. Only information supported by the shop's published source is included.

Verification Process

How a Listing Is Reviewed

1

Locate the Published Policy

Identify the shop's own e-bike service-policy page and confirm that the source supports the proposed listing.

2

Record the Policy Scope

Examine mechanical and electrical statements separately. Record named brands and exclusions using the published wording.

3

Preserve the Source

Store the policy URL and checked date with the record. A record without these fields does not qualify for publication.

4

Review Before Publishing

Check that the public listing accurately reflects the source and does not make broader service claims.

Updates and Corrections

How Information Is Kept Current

Every published record displays the date its source was checked. That date identifies when the published policy was reviewed; it does not guarantee that the shop's policy remains unchanged afterward.

We review reported changes and corrections against the shop's own published website before changing a listing.

We do not promise a fixed universal recheck interval. Policy information can change between reviews, and the checked date should always be considered when using a listing.

Visitors should confirm the exact repair, brand, and service scope directly with the shop before traveling.

Report an Incorrect or Outdated Listing

If a shop's published policy has changed, or a directory record does not accurately reflect its source, send the listing and correction details below.
